The joint presentation by Alfred Russel Wallace and Charles Darwin of two scientific papers – On the Tendency of Species to form Varities; and on the Perpetuation of Varieties and Species by Natural Means of Selection – to the Linnean Society of London on 1st July 1858.
To celebrate this extraordinary achievement by Wallace, an Old Hertfordian, the Richard Hale Association launched the Alfred Russel Wallace Travel and Education Scholarship.
The Scholarship is awarded to recent Richard Hale School leavers to assist them to undertake travel which is of an educational or charitable nature. The endowment for the scholarship has been entirely funded by generous former pupils and further donations to the endowment are still very much appreciated. Further details about the scholarship, and information about how to make a contribution, can be found under the “RHA” section of the school website.
All support from alumni would be gratefully received. Just a small standing order to the endowment fund, of just a few pounds a month, will, over time, hep to secure the long term future of this award.
